Top Ten Secrets of Highly Successful Video Marketing

I started to compile a bunch of stats to show you how popular video marketing is becoming.

And then I realized – the last thing you need are more stats about how video is taking over the internet. The fact is, if you’re not using video yet, you’re losing customers, clients and revenue.

Consumers love video. They watch video. They ENJOY video. They even enjoy video when the video is selling something, as long as the video still entertains and informs.

So how can you use more video in your business? And how can you make those videos perform as well as possible in getting your viewers to take action? Here are ten tips to get you started in the right direction:

1: Make your video is about the story, not about the sale.

Anyone can slap up a sales video and put it on YouTube. “Buy my product!” But will it get views? Not likely. Instead, tell stories and deliver value. Let’s say you’re selling a course on how to do marketing for chiropractic offices. It’s tempting to tell the viewer why your course rocks, why it’s exactly what they need, and how it’s only available for a limited time. But what if you make a series of short videos, with each video providing one powerful marketing tip just for chiropractors? I guarantee those videos will be watched and shared among the chiropractic community. You’ll establish massive credibility. And of course you can politely refer them to your website at the end of each video.

These videos won’t sell your course for you. But what they will do is make it far easier to get the sale. Think of it as romancing the client…First you take them out on a date or two or three…And THEN you close the sale. Your success rate will be much higher than if you try to close the sale while the two of you are still strangers.

2:  Make the first 10 seconds the BEST 10 seconds ever

One stat says that 20% of viewers will click away from a video within the first 10 seconds. Now you’ve got to ask yourself – why would they do that? They came to watch something, yet they leave almost immediately.

There could be a few reasons:

  • Your video doesn’t appear to be what they expected. If they are coming from a link that says, “Free iPad!” and your video is about growing organic veggies, you’re going to lose them. Continuity is key here.
  • You have a long, boring, “Look at me!” intro. You’ve seen those intros where it’s 30 seconds of how great the company, video creator, brand or whatever is. The problem is, no one cares but the person who made the video. Lose the long intro.
  • You dilly dally around. Taking the first minute of the video to finish setting up your recording equipment is a major no-no.
  • You don’t start out with a bang. You want to get right to the meat of the subject by quickly introducing what’s happening and then making it happen.

Think about movies back in the 50’s, 60’s and even 70’s – they all had long boring intros filled with lots of credits and no action. Now think about today’s’ movies – from the first moment there is action; something that captures your attention and makes you want to stay tuned to find out what’s happening, why it’s happening and what’s going to happen next. When it comes to writing fiction, teachers often tell their students to lop off the first page or two, because they’re usually full of long, boring intro stuff to set up the first scene. But when you lop that off and start with the action, BOOM – the reader is captivated. Videos are the same way. Start with the good stuff and let it just get better form there.

3: Don’t be so serious.

Your video might be to inform and instruct, but that doesn’t mean you have to sound like a boring, stuffy college professor. Find ways to inject fun and humor into your presentations. This doesn’t mean to inject knock-knock jokes that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. Instead, find the humor in what you’re teaching or talking about. It’s always there, you just have to look for it.

Now I know that when you get in front of a camera, if you’re like most people you get nervous. And when you get nervous, you might not be able to find the humor in anything, except perhaps your own nervousness.

Three things I can tell you – if you practice beforehand in front of a friend, you’ll be surprised at the funny things that come to mind. Go ahead and try your humor on your friend and listen to their feedback. They’ll tell you which ones parts and which to leave out. Second, when you’re filming, continue to think of the camera as your friend. You’re just having a friendly conversation, regardless of whether it’s you on camera or you’re using slides. Third, have fun. If you’re having fun then the viewer will likely have fun as well.

4: It’s good to be human

No one really likes someone who is perfect, or even someone who comes across as perfect. That’s why it’s okay to make mistakes on camera. If you are nervous or if you do something wrong, just acknowledge it and move on. For example, you drop something you were showing the viewer. Laugh, pick it up, make a joke about your nerves or your butterfingers or whatever, and move on. It’s a funny thing when we admit to the audience that we’re human and we can laugh at our own foibles – the audience begins to like us more, and they root for us, too. I even know people who purposely make a mistake or do something clumsy, just so they can get the audience on their side. It’s a truly effective technique when done right.

5: Tell embarrassing stories about yourself

As an extension of the last point, use yourself as an example of what not to do. Let’s say you’re teaching dating tips. You want to tell the viewers what not to do. Instead of saying, “You should never, ever do this or that because it just annoys the other person,” say this: “I was once on a date and I made the dumbest mistake possible. What happened was…”  And then go on to tell a story about yourself doing something stupid or wrong or whatever. Notice that now instead of lecturing the viewer, you are sharing a valuable story about how you goofed up. This does a couple of things. It teaches the viewer in a way they will remember, because people remember stories much better than lessons. And it’s yet another opportunity to show just how human you are, and make the audience like you even more.

But what if you never made that mistake yourself? It’s up to you, but I see no harm in telling the story from your point of view anyway. Again, it’s a highly effective teaching method, and everyone loves somebody who can laugh at themselves. Just look at comedians – they are continually telling audiences about the stuff they’ve done that wasn’t too bright. And audiences love them for it.

6:  Optimize your videos for search

Here are a few tips for doing just that:

  • If you can, host your video to your own domain first, before uploading it to sharing sites. This has the potential to get people to link back to your own domain, which will also help your overall SEO efforts.
  • Enable embedding on your video to increase the likelihood of receiving inbound links.
  • Add your videos to your sitemap to give Google information about your video. This gives Google useful metadata that can improve Google’s ability to include your video in search results. Here’s a handy page to tell you how:
    https://developers.google.com/webmasters/videosearch/sitemaps
  • Use tags for the relevant keywords. Write full descriptions and add a unique title.

And remember this: If it has a box, Google needs you to fill it out in order to help you rank.

7: Educate your audience

Some of the best videos you’ll ever make, that your prospects and clients will love, are videos that teach your viewers something useful. Whether it’s to get a result they want, show them how to best use your product, or provide useful tips, people enjoy short ‘how to’ videos that teach them what they want to know, when they want to know it. Which of course means you need to be found when they are looking. To do that, go back to #6 and make sure your video shows up in the appropriate SEO searches.

8: Let your customers speak for you

Social proof is best done by your customers on your behalf. For example, you can ask customers to film themselves talking about how they use and love your product. Case studies are an excellent way to showcase your product while teaching your audience how to achieve the result they desire. Your customer might talk about their buying decision, what might have stopped them from buying, and why they went ahead and got the product. Next they might talk about their results of using the product, what specific features they like, and the biggest benefits of using the product. A good customer testimonial or case study can be worth an entire sales letter when it comes to converting new prospects into customers.

9: Add a call to action

Whatever kind of video you’re making, don’t forget to add a call to action at the end. It might be to visit your website, go to a landing page to grab a free report, check out a sales page or whatever.

Just remember that your videos should be 90-95% great content and just 5-10% sales.

10: Add a video to your landing pages to increase conversions

Naturally you’ll want to test this out, but odds are you’ll see a nice bump in your conversions on your landing page if you add a short video.

The video should quickly introduce yourself and let them know what they’re getting when they subscribe. Make it friendly and fun for the viewer, and try to inject a little humor. Most of all, give one very clear and immediate benefit of subscribing to your list and grabbing your free offer.

I know a marketer who never sells a thing on his videos. All he does is provide helpful tips, tell silly stories about his industry and act as a helpful friend to his viewers. And his sales are through the roof. Why? Because people love him and trust him.

Video isn’t hard. What’s difficult sometimes is relaxing enough to simply be ourselves and lend a helping hand or tip to the viewer.

Top Five Questions To Ask Your Web Designer Before You Part With Any Money.

Here at the Internet Business School, we’re committed to making sure your business stays ahead of the competition with the latest in Internet Marketing techniques. Having an up to date WordPress website is an essential way to keep your online traffic flowing. There are many designers and web design companies out there, but how do you choose which is right for you? Here are the top five questions to consider when you outsource WordPress website creation.

What is included in your website packages?

This is a no-brainer. You will want to know what you’ll get for the money you’re paying. If there’s any tech terminology you don’t understand, make sure to ask. When you approach a designer for website creation make sure you have a list of what you want out of your website so you can check and compare. Things you might want to check for include: aftercare, search engine optimisation and links to social media.

How do you calculate the cost of your websites? Do you charge by the hour or by the page?

Whilst it may not be the best idea to start off the discussion with finance, you should establish early on how much you will be paying and how often. Different designers charge their customers in different ways so make sure you know to see if the method suits you.

Can I edit the website myself?

It’s important to keep your web content up to date so you’ll need to know whether you can do this yourself, or if you have to keep paying the designer to do so. Ideally you’d be able to add and edit content yourself, giving you maximum flexibility over your own website.

Do you use templates for website designs or do you custom build them from scratch?

How unique do you want your website to be? Some designers use ‘out-the-box’ templates that can then be customised and altered. Others will build your website from scratch, presenting more opportunities for creativity. You have to consider the uniqueness of your site versus how soon you need it. A templated site may take less time to produce whilst a custom site will certainly be more unique to your business..

What do I have to supply?

Normally you will have the supply the content for your website, the designer will make a frame for you and then put that content in.  Make sure to ask exactly what they are expecting you to provide so you don’t end up with uncompleted website or delayed completion when you have to find everything they need.

If you’re saying ‘I Want To do This Myself – But I Need Help’, we’ve got just the course for you.

Pinterest – What’s the Point?

Delivering the latest internet marketing trends to small businesses has always been the Internet Business School’s greatest passion. Our online internet marketing courses aim to bring you up to date with the great platforms out there for massively expanding your business. Recently our attention has been gripped by the World’s Catalogue of Ideas – Pinterest. Today we’re going to share what’s got us so excited. Why should you be using Pinterest for business?

150 Million Users a Month.

In 2013, Pinterest had 70 million users and now that has more than doubled in only four years! The number of people who use Pinterest worldwide is simply astounding, and it hasn’t stopped growing. Every day more and more people sign up, meaning the audience your business could reach on Pinterest is ever-expanding.

Your Products, Their Catalogue.

Pinterest allows its users to create their own personalised catalogue of anything and everything that takes their fancy.  This collection style of social media is unique to Pinterest. Each photo or video a user adds to their collection contains a link to the website selling the product or service pictured. These links drive traffic back to company websites. Start posting pictures of your products and services with links and traffic will flow towards your business!

The Power of Pictures.

A picture is worth a thousand words, especially on the internet. People are impatient when searching the internet and will click away if they don’t immediately see what they want. Yet it takes only moment to see a dozen pictures, giving those who post on Pinterest a distinct advantage. Would you rather read a chunk of text or look at a few beautiful pictures? What would make you want to buy something more? Pinterest is a platform full of pictures, perfect for the busy customer who only has a little time to find what they want.

Customer Interaction Made Easy

Pinterest makes customer interaction incredibly easy. Once again, people prefer pictures and they love spending less time on something. So when it comes to testimonials and feedback, people are more likely to share pictures of themselves enjoying your product rather than write out a review. This is perfect for Pinterest where everything is image-based. Not only that, you can invite others to post on your Pinterest, allowing for competitions, feedback and a whole wealth of other customer interaction. Engaged customers are happy customers who are likely to spend more!

The Do’s and Don’t’s of Instagram for Business

Here at the Internet Business School, we’re committed to delivering the latest trends in internet marketing to hardworking businesses. Recently we’ve been keeping our eye on Instagram, not just for the great pictures, but because the second largest social media platform in the world is perfect for promoting businesses. So how can you use Instagram for business? Well it couldn’t be simpler. Get your smartphone ready. Here are our dos and don’ts for making the most of Instagram for business.

Do

  • Post pictures of your business headquarters and staff. Customers like to see the people behind a business.
  • Create a story with your pictures. Show the process of how your product is made or how your services progress.
  • Keep your photos on topic. This shows an organised and professional brand.
  • Look for key figures in your industry and see who is following them. Interact with their followers by liking their posts and leaving comments.
  • Interact with your audience. Follow them back, like their posts and write comments to show that you are willing to engage with your customers.

Don’t

  • Set up Instagram on your computer and forget about the app. Most of Instagram’s features are only on your smartphone!
  • Spam your followers. You only need to post once or twice per day. Any more than that and you’ll bog down your followers and they’ll unfollow.
  • Overuse filters and sparkly effects. Too much altering makes your photos look unprofessional and more like an array of personal snaps..
  • Forget to link your Instagram to other social media platforms such as Facebook. You can then cross-post your images, meaning you can get two posts for the effort of one.

Five Reasons Why You Should Create an Ebay Business

Teaching people to make money online has always been the number one priority here at the Internet Business School. We’re always looking for quick and easy ways for you to make money using the latest internet marketing trends. We don’t think it really gets easier than opening up your own eBay store, but sometimes knowing where to start is the greatest hurdle for new businesses. That’s why we’ve created an online eBay Marketing course, but first, why should you be using eBay in the first place?

1) Your Own Personal Store
When you create a store on Ebay you get your own unique URL just for displaying your products, allowing customers to find you directly. Also, with only a little knowledge of HTML you can create a store that looks and feels completely unique, personalised for your business and its needs.

2) Cheap to List

It costs a maximum of 20p to list an item in an eBay Shop, and only 1p in their premium Anchor stores. This means you can list hundreds of products for sale with only a tiny charge compared to other online retailers.

3) Easy to Maintain

You don’t need to keep relisting your items as you can set them to automatically relist for as many days as you want them to. Your products will be available for sale constantly until they are removed by you. You can also set up your own promotions and sales with ease, your promoted items automatically appearing in the promotion section of your store design.

4) Product Reviews

Buyers can leave reviews on the sales pages of each of your products. This enables potential new buyers to see the recommendations of others, which could persuade them in turn to buy. Sellers on eBay can also be rated, letting your customers know you are a trustworthy source of whatever they’re looking for.

5) Extra Tools

You can use your store to create additional material for promoting your eBay store. Ebay provides the tools to create email marketing campaigns for your buyers, an ecommerce site linked to your eBay account, and templates for business cards and flyers.

Want to find out more about how you can make money on eBay? Well you can learn everything you need to know from the comfort of your own home with our online eBay marketing course. Why Go Mobile? What Mobile Marketing Can Do For Your Business.

Here at the Internet Business School, we’re passionate about making sure businesses are making the most of the latest internet marketing trends. We’ve noticed that despite the fact we’re all constantly checking our phones, some people haven’t realised that we should be putting our businesses on there too! Having great mobile marketing is essential for great business growth and that could start with a great mobile marketing course. Here are our top four reasons why you should go mobile.

– Anytime, anywhere

Browsing and shopping on mobile phones is the perfect way to fit buyers’ needs around a busy lifestyle. The ability to shop wherever there’s internet means that people are shopping anywhere at any time. If your business doesn’t have a mobile presence it is missing out on all these customers who are buying on the go. Reach your customers wherever they are and whatever they’re doing by having a mobile site, or even an app, that they can use whilst moving about.

– Quick and simple access

When we check our phones it’s often a quick glance, or a quick search to find out what we’re after. Often people use search engines on their phone to look up something up fast. Whilst your site can still be found by these search engines, a website not adapted to work on mobile will be a lot slower to load than one that is. This does not suit to the fast click-happy mobile user, who wants the information they need immediately. They’ll leave your site immediately and look for a faster one if you haven’t adapted it for mobile.

– Maximise Engagement

Just like any form of marketing, an engaged customer is a customer who will buy more. Mobile devices open up a new way for customers to engage with your business, especially with the use of apps. Many businesses create apps that coincide with their business – for example money tracking apps, small games or meal planners. These apps are often free, giving the customer something as a reward for their loyalty. These apps can also be used on the go, and often are built to be integrated into the customers’ lifestyle, making sure the business involved is always present in their customers’ lives.

– Sharing Potential

Word of mouth is a powerful marketing tool and people are constantly sharing their views on social media. Social Media dominates people’s smartphone usage and linking your content to social media will only make it easier for people to refer others to your business. This is possible on mobile, once again, anytime and anywhere. Let people advertise for you by giving them access to a fast mobile site they can share.

Are you ready to go mobile? Want to find out how you can adapt your current site for mobile use, or even create yourself an app? It’s easy! All of this and more can be found as part of the online Mobile Marketing course, created here at the Internet Business School. There’s everything you need to create professional mobile marketing for your business. Have any questions about the course? Ask us at https://internetbusinessschool.co.uk/contact-us/ We’d be happy to hear from you!

Top Five Tips for Search Engine Optimisation

Making sure small businesses get the edge over their competitors has always been one of the Internet Business School’s greatest aims. That’s why we’ve produced many professional internet marketing courses over the years, and stayed up to date with all the latest internet marketing trends. Throughout our years of experience, we’ve noticed that some businesses simply aren’t making the most of SEO – also known as search engine optimisation. This is what determines how far up search rankings a website will be displayed. When seventy percent of customers click on the top three sites listed, it’s never been more important to please Google and boost your site skywards. Here are five things you should consider when optimising your site for Google.

– Research is key

Before you start filling up your site, make sure to research not only the keywords you should be using, but also the keywords your competitors are using. There are many tools out there to do this, from Google Adwords to premium sites that can rank you in comparison to your competitors. Make sure to find out how many people actually do search the keywords you’re aiming for. Sometimes a simple Google search is enough to see how you compare with your rivals.

– Create rather than alter

Google awards businesses who are actively creating new content for their sites with higher rankings. Whilst it is advisable to optimise the pre-existing content on your blog, make sure you add new optimised content to your site as well. This could be in the form of blog posts, articles, testimonials, how-to guides, the limit is your imagination.

– Quality over Quantity

When it comes to this new content, don’t be tempted to just spam your website with the relevant keywords. Creating a page just filled with keywords for no other purpose than boosting your search engine rankings is deemed bad practice and can even get your site taken down from Google. Even if you only post new content once or twice a week, make sure it is meaningful as well as optimised. That’s why it’s better to write blogs, articles or guides for your customers as it boosts your ranking and provides a service.

– Make use of your titles and images.

Remember to include your keywords in the titles and headers of your content. This signifies not only to the reader but to Google, the importance of that keyword to the page. When you upload images, remember to add your keywords to not only the title of the image, but also the alt. Text as Google also reads these. Adding keywords to your images also helps if a customer is searching on Google Images as an image with keywords is more likely to show up there.

– Reputable links

Having your site linked to from reputable sources give it prestige and boosts it up the rankings. Creating links couldn’t be easier. If your products have been reviewed by another site, be they a news site, a blogger, or industry page, ask them to include a link to your page. Social media also counts so make sure to link your website to your social media pages and visa versa.

Want to find out more about how you can boost your site up Google’s rankings?  Fancy increasing the free traffic to your site? The Importance of Listening to Others

“I did the 3-day marketing course in 2010 after seeing Simon speaking in a seminar. He blew my mind. If he could teach me so much in an hour, what could he teach me in three days?”

Going it alone doesn’t mean isolating yourself from the world of business, as Alex Buxton learned as soon as they stepped into the Internet Business School classroom. The best way to learn is from the experts who have already accomplished what you’re trying to do.  Even if they aren’t in your exact industry, their internet marketing techniques and the skills they use, are more often than not applicable to your own marketing needs.  Yet it isn’t only the experts you should be listening to when it comes to business ideas.

In his Amazon bestseller, Interpreneur, The Secrets of My Journey To Becoming An Interpreneur, Simon Coulson says:

“LISTEN to what your friends and family are talking about – if they are interested in a topic or there is a buzz around a certain subject, maybe that is a market worth exploring”

Great ideas can come from the most likely and unlikely of places! Listen to your friends and family, often they will have ideas that you can combine with your business know-how to transform into profit. If they have a business idea, make sure to ask whether it’s ok for you to use it or whether they want to collaborate. Otherwise, if it is something you just hear in passing conversation, you can use it for yourself.
